In the early 19th century, on the day of the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, William Francis Truefitt opened his first gentleman's barbershop in fashionable Mayfair, London. He quickly earned the first Royal Warrant from King George III as "Court Hair Cutter". Today, 219 years later, it continues to hold Royal Warrant from the Duke of Edinburgh and resides at the iconic 71 St. James's Street.

Truefitt & Hill has served distinguished personalities including Winston Churchill, Charles Dickens, Frank Sinatra, John Wayne and Cary Grant. Referenced in British literature by Dickens and Thackeray as a "bastion of style". In 1935 it merged with Edwin S. Hill & Co., creating the modern Truefitt & Hill we know today.
