Strong Customer Authentication
3D Secure — an extra layer of protection.
Since January 2021, in accordance with the European Directive PSD2 (Payment Services Directive 2) and Greek Law 4537/2018, Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) applies to all electronic card transactions.
In practice, this means that for every purchase your bank will request verification via:
- SMS or notification through your bank's mobile app
- A one-time password (OTP)
- Biometric authentication (fingerprint or face ID where supported)
- A combination of the above for particularly sensitive transactions
This means that even if your card details were intercepted, no transaction can be completed without your real-time confirmation.

Which cards are accepted?

Are payments through Viva.com secure?
Yes. Viva.com (part of Vivabank SA, a credit institution supervised by the Bank of Greece) is certified as a PCI DSS Level 1 Service Provider — the highest tier in the industry. Every transaction is protected with state-of-the-art encryption and mandatory 3D Secure.
Are my card details stored?
No. We do not store card numbers, expiry dates or CVV on our servers. Processing is handled exclusively by Viva.com Smart Checkout in its own secure environment.
What is 3D Secure and why is it required?
It's an additional authentication protocol your bank requests for every electronic card transaction — mandatory since January 2021 under the European PSD2 Directive. Typically a code via SMS or confirmation through your bank's app.
How are refunds processed?
To the same card used for the original purchase (typically 5-10 business days, depending on your bank). Funds are never sent to a different card from the original transaction — this is an additional protection for you.
