The Arizona Renaissance

Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements is the brainchild of Douglas Smythe (former owner of How To Grow A Mustache) and Frances Towle (former owner of Petal Pusher Fancies). They decided to leave the cold, wet life of the east coast for the dry desert climate of central Arizona, choosing the phoenix as their symbol: rising from the ashes!

From Costa Rica to Arizona

Phoenix Shaving actually began by pure accident in Central America when Douglas was living in a hammock at the edge of the rainforest in Costa Rica. There he created "Itch No Mas" for sand flea bites, which became so popular that locals were knocking on his tent flap to get some!

CK-6 & Vegan Formulas

PAA is famous for their Crown King Kokum Butter (CK-6) formula that is "absolutely incredible" and vegan options that "never disappoint". Every product is handcrafted with unique storytelling and creative branding that creates an entire "Phoenix Shaving Universe".

Big Shave West Co-Founders

Douglas and Frances co-founded Big Shave West, an annual shaving event that brings together shavers, artisans, retailers, and wet-tubers. Douglas is also co-host of the Morning Shave Show "I'd Lather Be Shaving" that combines shave history, tips and "a whole lot of silliness".
