Cream, soap or shaving gel?

Cream easily creates rich lather — ideal for beginners. Soap needs more technique but lasts longer. Gel is transparent for precision when shaping beard lines. Stirling and Taylor of Old Bond Street have excellent options.

Do I need a brush?

For cream and soap, yes — a brush creates rich lather and lifts hairs for a closer shave. For gel, you can apply by hand. Mühle and Truefitt and Hill have premium brushes.

What is pre-shave?

Pre-shave oil or gel is applied before cream/soap. It softens hair, protects skin and allows the razor to glide smoothly. Especially useful for tough beard or sensitive skin.

Which scent should I choose?

Classic scents: Sandalwood (warm, woody), Lavender (fresh, relaxing), Bay Rum (Caribbean, spicy). Taylor of Old Bond Street has iconic Sandalwood, Stirling has huge variety. Choose based on your fragrance preference.

How long does a soap/cream last?

A 100gr soap lasts 3-6 months with daily use. A 150ml cream about 3-4 months. Artisan Stirling soaps (170gr) last even longer. They're more economical long-term than canned foams.
