Born from Necessity
In 1999, Donnie Hawley faced a problem at his Hawleywood's barbershop: traditional petroleum-based pomades wouldn't wash out and hindered his technique. Coming from the rockabilly/greaser scene, with curly hair that was hard to style, he began experimenting for a solution.
"Made His Hair Lay Right"
After many experiments, he created the perfect formula. A customer with similarly curly hair told him: "You're the only person who's been able to get my hair to lay right". Thus the name Layrite was born and a brand that would change the barbering industry forever.
