From Markets to the World
In 1976, 23-year-old Olivier Baussan started with an alembic, a small truck and deep knowledge of plants. Distilling essential oils from wild rosemary and lavender, he sold them at Provence's open-air markets. The name L'Occitane honors the women of medieval Occitania.
Values & Tradition
L'Occitane built its success on authentic values: respect for nature, preserving traditions, fair trade with women's cooperatives in Burkina Faso for shea butter, and protecting species like lavender and almond trees. Since 1997, adds Braille to packaging.
Natural Ingredients from Provence
Each product contains the essence of Provence: lavender essential oils, almond extract, Corsican immortelle, verbena. The Manosque factory follows the strictest ECOCERT specifications for organic cosmetics, with no animal testing.
