What are the basic steps in face care?

Why do I need a separate face cleanser?

Body soap is too harsh for the face and strips natural oils. Face cleansers clean gently without dehydrating. Especially important if you shave — clean skin reduces irritation.

Which cream for oily skin?

For oily skin, choose oil-free, lightweight creams or gel moisturizers. Baxter of California and Recipe for Men have light formulas that moisturize without making skin greasy.

Do I need eye cream?

The eye area has thinner skin and shows signs of fatigue or aging first. A good eye cream reduces puffiness, dark circles and fine lines. L'Occitane and Beviro have excellent options.

When do I need lip balm?

Lips don't have sebaceous glands and dry out easily. Lip balm protects and hydrates. Especially important in winter, with sun exposure or if you have a beard (lips are more exposed to the elements).

What's the correct application order?

1) Cleanser, 2) Toner (optional), 3) Serum (optional), 4) Eye cream, 5) Moisturizer, 6) SPF (morning). Order is from lightest to thickest. At night, skip the SPF.
